About NewGate Law
NewGate Law was launched in 2012 with a single vision – provide small and midsized accounting firms with affordable and expert legal services. While there are many exceptional law firms, only a handful have decades of deep experience supporting accounting and professional service firms.
The principals at NewGate are former in-house attorneys and partners at major accounting firms, including Arthur Andersen, American Express Tax and Business Services, Ameriprise, and RSM US. Having worked as corporate counsel, NewGate’s attorneys have a deep understanding of the day-to-day operations and challenges facing accounting firms.
We are often asked about the origins of the NewGate Law name. It’s a rather complicated affair. While stationed in London, our founder became interested in the English judicial system, including New Gate prison. The prison was erected in 1188 at the site of the “New Gate” in the Roman London Wall. During its 700 year history, New Gate had a sustained reputation of cruelty and depravity, being the final stop of the condemned before heading to the gallows. Our reference – of course – is totally humorous.
More seriously, NewGate Law aspires to be a “new gate” to delivering legal services to accounting firm clients – highly affordable, unique expertise, and business focused. Not your typical law firm. Additionally, we value legacy. Our brand was selected to preserve our vision of a “new gate” and not the names of our founders.
